Spain's Secretary of State for Trade, Jaime García–Legaz, the Chairman of the Madrid Chamber of Commerce, Arturo Fernández, and the CEO of IFEMA, Luis Eduardo Cortés, signed a collaboration agreement to boost the internationalisation of Madrid's businesses, at a ceremony that was jointly presided over by the Minister of Economy and Finance of the Autonomous Community of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio.

Madrid is to hold the European Society for Medical Oncology Congress (ESMO 2014). Bringing together 18,000 delegates from 26 to 20 September 2014, the meeting will be the biggest international medical congress ever organised in the Spanish capital and will establish our city as a preferred destination for international scientific associations.
Some 60,000 to 80,000 overnight stays are estimated for the congress, which is to take place at IFEMA, an affiliate body to the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB).
