The President of the Regional Government of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, chaired the presentation of the 7th edition of the Pyme (SME) Awards. The latter are organised by EXPANSIÓN and IFEMA, with the sponsorship of Páginas Amarillas and the collaboration of Crédito y Caución, Ejaso and ONO. These awards, which recognise the work of Spanish small and medium businesses, their entrepreneurial spirit and the effectiveness of their business practices, were presented to six companies from different sectors: AlphaSIP, Mundo Reader, Pikolinos, Pertini, Urimat and Mis Pollitos, who were selected from more than a hundred candidates.

Now consolidated as an acknowledgement of the new generations of small and medium enterprises for their contribution to the economy and business development of the country, these awards are especially significant in the current difficult situation, when the lack of funding and the unfavourable environment threaten the viability of these projects.

The Pyme Awards are divided into six categories representing the foundations of modern business management, and showcase success stories in the business world based on the experiences of entrepreneurs who, despite difficult situations, are notable for their strong commitments to their projects, and provide an example and encouragement for future entrepreneurs.

Around a hundred small and medium enterprises were candidates for the six categories of the awards: Internationalisation, Research and Development, the Environment, Corporate Social Responsibility, Entrepreneur and Job Creation.
