The franchise system had a turnover of 26.3518 billion euros in 2011

The sector has healthy expectations despite the present difficult business climate. This is evident in the report "Franchising in Spain" by AEF, the Spanish Franchisers Association, which states that the franchising system saw 26.3518 billion euros in turnover in Spain in 2011. This represented 6.5% growth over the 24.6514 billion euros in turnover at the end of 2010, returning to 2008 levels after two years of slight decline. The main conclusion to be drawn is that this business system has seen the light at the end of the tunnel of the crisis, and is returning to growth in all its variables: the number of chains (both domestic and international), turnover, the number of establishments and the number of employees.

In addition, the number of franchising chains operating in Spain has increased again; at the end of 2011 the system included 947 franchises, 13 more than at the end of 2010. There has also been an increase in the number of foreign brands operating in Spain, from 177 in 2010 to 180 at the end of last year. Also, in terms of number of employees, the system was providing jobs for a total of 240,713 people at the end of 2011.
