The agreement between the two institutions represents a gateway into a very interesting market –South Korea is the 11th largest economy in the world, with nearly 4% growth forecast for 2012 and strong trade links with China, Japan and the rest of Asia.
In this context, based on IFEMA's experience as a trade fair operator and organiser of EXPOFRANQUICIA, the International Franchise Salon, which holds its 18th edition on April 19-21, promotion is underway among the Spanish and Portuguese franchise sector in order to facilitate the participation of companies in the two Asian trade fairs organised by COEX, FRANCHISE SEOUL and VIETNAMSHOP + FRANCHISE, and encourage their internationalisation in one of the markets with the greatest potential in Asia.
FRANCHISE SEOUL, which in 2012 holds its 33rd edition in spring, from 26 to 28 April, and its 34th in autumn, from 6 to 8 September, gathered 126 direct exhibitors in its last fair, and received 26,211 professional visitors.
Participation in FRANCHISE SEOUL represents the opportunity to enter a market consisting of 1,600 franchise networks, with around 120,000 establishments in South Korea, and with 5% expected growth in the next few years. The sector is also favoured by the increasing purchasing power of the new generations of Korean consumers, and the changes in distribution encouraging the appearance of new products. Revenue from the franchise
segment represents more than 40 billion euros, or 7.4% of South Korea's GDP. 45% of this income is produced by catering brands, 30% by product sales, and 25% by services.
VIETNAM INTERNATIONAL SHOP + FRANCHISE SHOW 2012 is the only fair which COEX organises outside South Korea. Its next edition will be held from 1 to 3 November 2012 in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center), with retail and franchise sectors in the same space. The last edition hosted 123 direct exhibitors and was visited by a total of 10,400 distributors and professionals from 35 countries.
VIETNAM INTERNATIONAL SHOP + FRANCHISE SHOW signifies an important access route to an emerging Asian country. It is one of the most attractive for investment and provides quick ROI. It is experiencing economic expansion and has a potential market of 80 million people – the population is growing by 2.25% a year - with a very young average age and an emerging middle class. It should also be remembered that Vietnam is currently the second fastest growing economy in South-East Asia.
